Finding the 10 smallest values in Excel ranges
the quick and dirty dozen
For any selected range containing numeric data, you can quickly list the ten amounts which are the least (smallest) values within the range. If you wish to list a number of values other than 10, just specify the quantity (e.g. 5, 20, 50, etc.) on the "Other" text box. This technique provides the auditor a quick way to identify such values.
Note that the data does not need to be "pre-sorted".
The procedure used to identify the "bottom 10" are the same as that for the more commonly performed test - "Top 10". A description of those procedures can be found under "Top 10". (which is also shown below)
First, select a range in Excel which contains the numeric values to be tested:
Then open the Audit Commander Spreadsheet application (if it is not already open), and select the "bottomn" command:

The next step is to "paste" the selected data (which had been copied to the clipboard using the "Control-C" keyboard combination, or menu item "Edit|Copy". This is done by either pressing "Control-V" or else using the "paste" button on the form.

When pasted, the cell contents copied from Excel appear in the form. Now we need to specify the range to be tested. In this example we will test the second and third columns, i.e. columns 2 and 3. This information is entered into the "Range" text box as "C 2 3". Note that if we had left the box blank, then all the cell values would have been tested. If we leave the box named "Other info" blank, then the largest 10 values will be selected. However, in this case we are only interested in the largest 7, so we enter the number 7 in the text box labeled "Other info".
At this point we are ready to analyze the data, so we click the "OK" button. This will result in the seven largest values being shown under the "Report" tab and also pasted to the clipboard.
The largest seven values, as requested, are numbered and listed in descending order.
A similar procedure can be performed for identifying the largest values.
